Hello, how to make a letterbox at all? Now I use Zenote Letterbox. Does anybody know an easier way via Vegas only, with mask for example? I tried with mask to get letterbox, but the result is not excellent because I dont know what setting to use? Especially I need a letterbox when rendering out in VCD PAL. Any help, please???

Here's a simple way to do letterbox 100% in Vegas:

In a separate Video track over your project, drop in generated media: Horizontal blinds. Play with the dimensions. Turn on the TV safe grid in the monitor and that can give you some guidelines to even out the letterbox.

And you don't want to use the Pan/Crop tool with the Letterbox preset?

Re: Letterbox in Vegas 5

I've burned two VCDs in my entire life.  Can they be anamorphic?

If so, you'd probably want to crop instead of mask.

But if they can't be, and it will all be 4:3 anyway, you'd get the same result whether you crop or mask to get the letterbox.  I'd venture to say in that case, using the mask on the top layer might even be a little easier to do.

Yes, I use the mask preset 16:9 in pan/crop. But by this way I have to put that in every single clip on the timeline. Are there global settings for that case?

Would you explain step-by-steb all that you wrote above?

You can do it to one clip, copy it, and then select all the others and "paste event attributes." However, every effect will be copied, so it's best to do that firrst.

This is the way I do it; I shoot 4:3 however and have to go back and KEYFRAME the MAsk. But it's like automatic in nature.

Re: Letterbox in Vegas 5

When you're done with your project, combine all the clips into one grouping. Then Apply the 16x9 in the pan/crop. Done.

Re: Letterbox in Vegas 5

Not quite done. As John says, you often have to reframe each clip so that the cropping is in the optimal place.

You can save some time by cropping longer clips before you split them up into the project.

So, how to combine all the clips into one grouping actually?
