Zeiss 35mm f/1.4

Anamorphic Options:

Panasonic LA7200
Best zoom option: Tokina 11-16 (should cover 12.5-16)
Best Prime options would be in the 14-18mm range. 20mm and above should have increased edge blur

Bolex Moller 8/19/1.5x
Best Prime Options:
Nikkor AI 35mm f2 or FD 35mm f2 Nikkor 50mm 1.8, 1.4

Iscorama 36
Best Prime Options:
Nikkor AI 35mm f2 or FD 35mm, f2 Nikkor 50mm 1.8, 1.4, Nikkor 85 1.8

I'll do testing with all three when I get the camera

Also heads up on the new Tonkina 11-16 coming out around July.

I wish that canon 8-14mm F4L was not a fish eye. I am thinking that 8mm is going to be the goto ultra wide for this camera so far I think only Sigma has one that will work on a EF mount.

Depends how fast and sharp BMD's autofocus is for the Canon 24mm 1.4. Red has made it work, now BMD needs a good solution.

+1

I have the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 (declicked, smooth iris) and it's really nice. The 14mm 2.8 is the next on my list.
It has a really ugly moustache shaped distortion in full frame sensors (5D), but not that bad on APS-C crop, and would be really nice on a BlackMagic sensor, I think.

BTW, to put to rest any concerns about EF-S lenses not working, in the original Bondi video he says he used the Canon EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 USM lens... so there should be no issues using them.

Canon EF-S 10-22 anyone? :)

Lenses for a full length feature

Lenses for a full length feature

What lenses would be appropriate for a full length feature? I've seen people discussing a lot of wide lenses. What about MCU and CU?

Already a good glass topic going, let's keep it in one place unless specifically inquiring about differences in FOV etc.

I found the 10-22 is not as good as the 11-16. Tests are on my blog

you can adapt Nikkors to EF correct? Like so: http://www.google.com/products/cata...T5P5Kcb62AWW-cz4BA&ved=0CDoQ8wIwAw#ps-sellers

Does it keep infinity focus?

Yes, the right adapter will keep infinity.

You can also PL mount to EF, as long as the rear element isn't too large for the porthole. The issue with Canon DSLRs is the mirror and some PL lenses extend too far into the body in general.

Looks like there's a lot of space in the tube to actually use the cheap non-destructive PL adapters.

The other issue will be backfocus, so focus marks will be off (if not way off) and PL zooms wont' track.

Since they said that M 4/3 and PL were in the road map, I wonder what the possibility is that it will be available among the first units shipping in July? I'm sure the EF mount will sell the most since everyone has L glass....but I really need PL or M 4/3. With M 4/3 I can save a whole bunch of money and just use a cieco adapter for my OCT-19 mount glass. And if I HAVE to I'll finally pay to get them converted to PL...but I would love to put that off as long as possible.

Well there are two issues with the DSLRs, one is that the lenses are too deep and they impact the mirror, but the other (as you mentioned) is the diameter of the lens. The tube (the "throat") of the Canon mount is simply too small for the majority of PL lenses to fit into. So if you're looking for a PL adapter, you're probably going to be limited to a few zooms, no primes.

As for S16 glass, you can largely forget about that, because of the mounting problem and the image circle issues. Super16 is a 12.4mm wide sensor, and the BMCC has a 15.6mm(?) wide sensor. It's not likely that you'll find too many S16 lenses below about 25mm that will cover that size sensor, and 25mm is quite a bit telephoto. S16 wide-angle lenses will most definitely not cover the sensor, nor will 16mm lenses.

I think folks will probably make themselves happiest if they focus their lens research on Canon EF and Nikon F lenses. There's no question about those, they'll all work. Yes it'll be tough to get a wide angle field of view with them, but in cinema 35mm film we normally use about an 18 as the widest general-purpose prime, and on the BMCC that'd equate to about 12.5mm on the BMCC. That's do-able if you use the Canon 10-22 or the Tokina 11-16. No, it's not gonna be wide, but it's a reasonable focal length common in cinema shooting.

Don't waste your time chasing after Canon FD or S16 or PL or c-mount lenses to get wide angles, they're simply not going to fit onto the BMCC. Nikon and Canon will. One other option would be older M42 glass, like the Carl Zeiss Jena lenses or the Super Takumars, those are really nice inexpensive vintage glass, and you can find the Peleng 8mm in M42 or Nikon mount. The Peleng will probably be a bit of a fisheye on the BMCC, or at least show some barrel distortion, but it would be pretty wide, about equivalent to a 19mm on a full-frame camera.
