Less depth of field with Canon XL2

I have a couple of questions about how to achieve less depth of field with the XL2. I have read a little bit about this, and it seems like the P+S Technic mini35 image converter with a 35 mm film-lens gives the best result, but the total cost of this equipment gets to expensive for me. Which of the other possibilities will give me the best result compared to the price? Is the Canon-EF-adapter the way to go, or lexus35 that lets you use slr-lenses? Or is there other, better options...

Any help will be greatly appreciated and examples (footage) is of course also great if it is available...

Post in the hardward section. And just so you know, drive-by posters aren't always appreciated. Lastly, have you tried the search function?

Yeah, have tried the search function. Zero matches... Sorry, but sometime I have to post my first post, my fault it is a question? And which hardware-section? That for the dvx-100 or the hvx-200?

You didn't try searching too hard because there is more DOF conversation around these parts than I personally can deal with... LOL!

i dont have any experience with 35mm adapters sry :(

remember though, ur on "DVX"user.com, so maybe just search 'dof' and leave out the XL2, would that make sense? if you dont wanna try that you can always post in the "other camera" section, otherwise I would look for a xl2 focused board

I dont understand why people get poop up their butts about people asking questions. Seriously, does it matter that people ask stupid questions? Just ignore the topic and dont get pissy at them

I am mesmerized that much is made of getting a shallow DOF with any camera

It's not rocket science. Why is the concept so hard for people to grasp ?

DOF is just basic optical theory. Find a book called "basic photography" (no kidding) and read what causes the depth of field. Maybe the "advanced photography" tells even more. There is also an "encyclopedia of photography" out there.

It is a bit different with XL2 compared to DVX100. With XL2 you can use Canon SLR lenses, which are looooong compared to normal 1/3" video lenses. Using a fast 100-400 mm SLR lens full open you are guaranteed a shallow DOF even with 1/3" sensor. Only problem is that you have to shoot your subjects from at least 100 yards away...
