Les Stroud "Survivorman" calling it quits

Yeah, I'm sorry, but Les Stroud is out there, by himself, shooting the whole thing which is a pain, and if he dies, that's it. There's NOBODY around for miles upon miles. Way more impressive to me what that man has gone through than Bear Grylls.

Les has a rescue team for every shoot a couple miles away on standby at all times, he is not going to be dying on the show.

Sad that Les is putting an end to this.

I would think that since we mostly all shoot on this thread, we would have the utmost respect for Les and what he has achieved with his show. Shooting 3-4 cameras by yourself for a week at a time, while surviving, thinking like a producer and a DP as well as editor and that fact that he also composes and plays a lot of his soundtracks as well, I think Les is amazing in his achievements. He is a likeable, talented and unique individual.

I doubt if many of us could shoot an entire show by ourselves and of ourselves and have it come out even 1/4 as entertaining as Survivorman.

I like Bear as well but yes, his show is quite a different concept.

Dan,

Do you think Les was hiding granola bars in his camera bags?

I mean if he didn't I would loose respect for him. I have seen grips / best boy's tare down studios because they were not fed lunch.

I respect Les, always have.

PS Maybe a couple water bottles?

Ah, who knows, but the fact is, even with some supplies, he is doing something that few others are capable of and he tells stories in a unique and entertaining way. I always tell my kids, "if it's on TV, it's fake" which is true to quite a point.

I was just kidding around :)

Survivorman is one of my favorite shows, it's very impressive what a one man band can do with a couple editors and to think he cuts the show on vegas.

Bear's crew is way tougher than he is. They do everything he does, while hauling tons of gear.

I was thinking the same thing. Dragging around a Varicam with them in very rugged conditions, that's got be tough.

For some reason I get the feeling that Les would stay true to the concept and not bring food with him. But who really knows.
