Lenses with manual aperture

Please forgive me if this question has been answered. I did a search but didn't come back with any definitive answer.

I will be buying a 35mm adaptor shortly which will accept Nikon lenses or Canon EF lenses. I read somewhere that all Canon lenses have apertures at their widest outside the SLR cameras whereas Nikon lenses are practically closed. I don't want to be messing around with an SLR camera to set the apertures (I don't own an SLR) and then attaching to the 35mm adaptor. So it appears that I would be scuppered using Nikon lenses (although lots of people seem to be using Nikon?). Canon's would work fine but without any way to change the aperture it might result in images that are too soft.

My first lens purchase will be a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8. Can anyone recommend a Canon or Nikon lens which will allow manual adjustment of the aperture for the 35mm adaptor. A list would be fantastic - including other focal length Nikons and Canons.

Canon FD lenses (which I use) require a simple one-time modification to achieve iris control when mounted. On the newer Letus FD mount, this modification isn't even necessary. There's no model # really since there are no different series like the Nikon. My recommended list would be

FD 24mm f2
FD 50mm f1.4
FD 85mm f1.8
FD 135mm f2

This is a modest kit that should run you $700-800.

Thanks for the reply Huy but I can't use FD lenses.

Come on guys. All of you using 35mm adaptors and you can't provide any advice on lenses that have manual aperture control. Surely that's crucial. You must have experience of them or do you just keep the 35mm fully wide ?

MHH,
Most Nikon lenses will work fine. The cheapest are the manual focus ones with an aperture ring.

AVOID any nikon with the G, VR, or DX in the name.

If there is no apeture ring on the lens - do not buy it. No aperture means a SLR must adjust the aperture.

I have FD lenses, and my most useful one is a 70-200mm zoom, F4. Its great, cost 30 pounds and is practically new condition.
