Lenses on eBay

Back in the day you could browse eBay and pick up a second-hand lens described as in good condition for a fair price.
Today I am seeing more and more lenses being described as brand new yet arriving in non standard packaging. Individual sellers are shifting these in small volumes. I suspect these are either rejects from the manufacturer somehow finding their way onto the market or refurbished /repaired lenses. Sadly it's skewing the market.

Sometimes they are lenses from camera kits, so they sell the lens separately and it will have no original packaging because the original packaging was "kit" packaging for the camera and lens.
