Lense scratch...

Not my DVX lense, but for someone else who has a wide angle adapter on their mini-dv camera. Dropped first day in the sand and wiped off by the user. Slight scratches on front of glass. Anything they can do?

FYI... I picked out the camera and lense adapter for them, no threading rings on the front for a UV filter. If it is to be replaced, I will look for one with real threads on the end to mount a UV!

Does the term paper weight mean anything to you?

shoot some footage and see if they are visible. I they are your SOL.

There's not much that can be done other than replacing the front element of the lens if there are visible problems on the footage. Do *not* use the product below because it's a liquid polymer and the lens is glass--two different refractive indexes.

You can always try some of this crud...

If it doesn't work it doesn't matter as your adapter is toast the way it is anyway.

If it's a Century wide-angle, Century can probably replace the front element for you. Won't be cheap, but should be a lot less expensive than buying a new wide-angle lens.

This situation is a bummer, no doubt. Keep in mind that even a scratched up Century lens would likely produce sharper images than anything not made by Century. If you have the 0.6X lens, that's a single element. So, a replacement element would likely be about the same as buying another lens. Yes, this is tough news. Sorry.

Not the end of the world. It is a cheap Canon piece. I will get them a new one..with threads for a UV!
Thanks!
