Lense flare problem

I'm shooting a scene where I need to shoot towards windows with sunlight pouring through them, but I get was too many distracting flares everywhere and I can see the lense reflecting itself in the image. Are there any filters I can use to reduce the flares and refelction?

Re: Lense flare problem

There is no filter that will remove lens flare--if anything a filter will add to the problem by adding another glass surface. If you're using any filter try taking it off when you shoot into the light. Shooting directly into the light is going to give you some flare no matter what you do--especially with a lens with as many elements as the Dicomar zoom. A good matte box or lens shade will help somewhat, although if the light is striking the surface of the lens you're still going to have a problem. You could try putting some scrim of ND gel over the windows--it may help a bit by cutting down the light level. Shifting camera position may also help.

maybe a polarizer could help getting rid of some reflections on the glass,

Re: Lense flare problem

A polarizer will get rid of reflections on the glass but as Barry pointed out it will not get rid of lens flare. Make sure all the glass (both window and lens) is as clean as possible. try adjusting the angle you shoot the window on so that the light does not hit the lens directly.
Just thinking out loud here; if you are in an other wise dark room and the light coming in is very bright you could use a smoke machine to create a bit of smoke (just a little bit) in the room so that you see the light coming in the window that way you can set up away from the window and still get the impression of light pouring in the window and it will also draw the eye away from any little flares you may still get.
