Lens support options for my C100 and Canon 70-200 2.8, weight distribution question

I've got the above listed lens/camera combo. The 70-200 is the non-IS version and weighs 2.85 pounds. The Canon C100 weighs a little bit less at 2.5 pounds, but once I add my Ninja Blade, handle, and battery to it, it goes up to about 3.5 pounds. I work in a run-n-gun environment where I frequently swap lenses. I'd say I use my 70-200 about 15% of the time, compared to my 24-70.

When I swap my lenses, I don't use any form of lens support for the 70-200. I've never had any issues, but I know some users who have. Lately, I've actually been mounting my lens to the tripod (via the support ring and a small manfrotto baseplate) with the C100 hanging off. This seems to helps with the weight balance, but I'm still concerned that I'm putting too much weight on the lens mounts in these situations. Seems far better than mounting the camera and letting the lens hang off, though, due to the length of the 70-200 and the balance of gravity.

Finally, my question -- is this safe? And if not, what are some sensible, run-n-gun support options to make sure I'm doing no harm to my lens mounts. I switch lenses frequently during a shoot and don't have time for major baseplate/support changes. I'm looking for a universal option. My camera is tripod mounted a good 85% of the time, with occasional handheld work thrown in. Thanks in advance for all the feedback.

MY local colleagues all support that lens, though it's the IS version so a little heavier (I think?). The cheapest way I know of is the gorilla baseplate from Zacuto made for C100/C300, rods, and the actual support piece that props up the lens (one colleague has one he got off amazon for $90 from Lanparte). So about $250 plus rods for all that.
