Hey guys, forgive me for the question, I'm still new to photography, but correct me if I'm wrong. The lens attachment size for the D40 is 52mm? I was looking at a 'close up lens' and the size offered is 52mm. Thanks.

The D40 has a Nikon F-Mount.
The front of the kit (stock) lens it ships with is 52mm. It is meant to accommodate screw-on filters.

Thanks.
On another note, any suggestions on a wide angle lens?
