lens repair, :(

my lens has been 'hit' with what I don't know, but not damaged, its a surface smudge that wont go that needs pro attention. I think the coating is partially removed. I have shown it to Panasonic repair people and they say I must replace complete lens housing, which is rather expensive. Does anyone know of another (cheaper) way.

it would have been cheaper to keep a UV filter on at all times, then replace the UV filter if it got damaged.

now that it is damaged, i would believe what panasonic told you. after all they are trained technicians.

First of all--how did this happen? Lens coatings aren't easy to remove--so this seems weird to me. If it's a nasty smudge, you could try using some ROR (residual oil remover)

Second, is there a visible problem with the image? If not, you shouldn't be too worried. But clean your lens and get a high quality multi-coated UV filter.

1, I'm not at all sure, I'm ultra careful been using cameras all my life., I did lend it to a friend, he is also careful. (I bought it as demo, so I blame myself entirely if it was there before, its difficult to see) 2, there is something visible, a small 'squiggle' about 5 mm long. Not seen on material shot in low to moderate lighting situations. i could try ROR. Many thanx
