Lens Reliability

Lenses used to just consist of glass and mechanics. Now they have motors, computer chips and firmware.

Has anyone noticed any reliability issues with these more complex lenses or do the just not fail?

i am afraid that this video DSLR era will kill many lens (especially in manual mode) built to be driven by the camera body.

I prefer full manual lenses. The last 14-42 which comes with the GH2 here in Germany is one of the cheapest worst built lenses I have seen so far. I dont trust the reliabilty of these automatic lenses plus they can not be adapted so easily between brands! Imagine you would like to use the 20mm lumix pancake on another camera: no focus? no iris? makes little sense to me. I still have and use my old Nikon glass from the 70s and it works great on the GH1.
