Lens recommendation help needed

Just got a hold of a SGPro r3 (non flip) and now i'm looking at finishing off the whole package.

I was planning on purchasing RR follow focus, baseplate and carbon rods - will this work well with the SGPro?

For lenses I am slightly torn as to which is the better decision.

I have heard the nikon 17-35mm af zoom is amazing, which I really want.

The lenses I have on my list are as follows

Nikon AIS 24mm F2
Nikon AIS 50mm F1.2
Nikon AIS 85mm F1.4

Is there any reason I should go with lower cost versions of the above (ie are any of those a waste of money?)

Also, I love the idea of the 17-35mm zoom but I have heard the focus wheel is only a 1/4 turn. Is this a problem when using a follow focus, or is it not a big deal?

I guess where i'm stuck is - should I get the 17-35mm zoom and drop the 24mm AIS, or should I not get the zoom and add a AIS 35mm?

Thanks in advance, I have much to learn now.

You should be able to use any FF, baseplate and rods with any adapter as long as they are 15mm rods, and not some wacky adapter with a crazy sized slot for rod support.

I personally dont have the 17-35mm, but I've heard great things. And your lens list should be just fine, the low f-stops mean that they may be a little more on the expensive side...

You can get a Nikon AIS 24mm f/2.8 or a 50mm f/1.4 for around $180 off of ebay if you're careful. I had no problems getting mine, and I think they're great. The lower f-stops you have listed are very nice lenses, but are a lot harder to find used, because pretty much anyone with those lenses more than likely doesn't want to get rid of them, and they're quite a bit more expensive to buy new.

As for the 85mm f/1.4, it is another great lens, which is next on my list. Although, it's a little out of my price range right now. I may end up going for one with a higher f-stop, since I wouldn't really need to worry about going any lower than, say, f/4 anyways. Since I'd probably only use it outside. (or maybe a huge room that for some reason I'd need a long lens for...)

I can't speak from experience on the cheaper versions of those lenses, but I'd say stick with Nikon, or another big company (Zeiss, Canon, etc.) The old saying, "You get what you pay for"

For your next question. Depending on what you're filming, the focus may be acceptable, if you are outside, it will be much easier to get a lot of DOF, making it much simpler to keep your subject in focus with the short focus throws. Inside, may be another story, but I don't know why you would need an 85mm lens indoors, when you could just move the camera in.

I can't really tell you which lens you should get, it all depends on which would suit your needs more.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess my main question is now - if I do go with the 17-35mm Zoom lens, is there any reason to get a prime 24mm f2 and prime 35mm f1.4?

Would the primes be better than the zoom, or if I get the zoom will it be just as good as having the primes?

Thanks so much again.
