Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

Ok . . I now have got the anamorphic adapter (and I love it) and can't afford to splash out on much more right now, but I would love to be able to use a Grad or a Polarizer with it 4 sure!!!

A matte box is beyond my budget but is it true that you can adapt a Cokin Holder XP to fit the adapter? That would enhance the image giving results at under $60

Anyone tried it out. I ask I would have to buy one to see it in hand. I do live on a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean with limited resources!

Re: Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

Someone did adapt an X-Pro to the front of their anamorphic adapter. I searched here, creative cow, 2-pop and indieclub but couldn't find the post. Which is too bad, because he set up a website with pictures and everything.

As I recall, it involved trimming the inner ring of the adapter a bit to avoid vignetting, and making some sort of little clips or clamps to attach the holder to the anamorphic adapter's lens hood.

So it would work, but then you're stuck using Cokin filters, which have historically not been regarded as being of the best quality...

Re: Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

Tx barry! so r u saying that a 4x4 filter would not fit in any holder? Do no standards apply? :(

Re: Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

There's somebody on this board who modified his anamorphic adapter such that the adapter's lens shade itself became a 4x4 filter holder. He cut a slit in it, lined it with black felt (to avoid scratching) and 4x4 filters fit in it perfectly.

Other than that, you'd need a matte box that can accomodate the anamorphic adapter, and I think there's only one, and it requires you to shave off the lens hood (or most of it, at least). Or use a 6x6 matte box.

You could jerry-rig 4x4 filters right into the front of the adapter too -- the opening is big enough to accomodate a 4x4, you'd just have to find a way to clip it in place so it didn't move around on you.

Re: Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

Kapix . . . but what I was aking was does Cokin holder = Cokin Lenses? Is that all that would fix, I.E. could I not fit Lee lenses in the slot?

The lens modification sounds good but in my hands would be risky! I often thought of ordering a spare hood before I got the lens to try and modify that, you know the guard that comes with the panasonic. Now I am hooked to the anamorphic look!

Re: Lens holder for anamorpic adapter

The Cokin X-Pro might only hold Cokin filters, I'm not sure. Cokin makes a new Z series that I THINK is compatible with 4x4's, but... heck, I don't know... try their website at www.cokin.fr and see if it answers your questions. I don't know if Cokin and Lee are cross-compatible, but I'm pretty sure the X-Pro is its own size.
