lens flair

Hi all

I applied the Lens Flair effect to a shot. It looks great but there are couple of problems.

First one is that I can't make it stand still. Meaning, the lens flair moves all over the frame. Why doesn't it stay put after I position it? Do I need to keyframe it? And if so, how?

Secondly, in the help guide it says that this effect works in 8 bit mode. But I still see it in 16 bit... So does it work in 16 bit or not?

Thanks.

A little yellow triangle with an exclamation point pops up next to the effect name in the effects control window if it doesn't work in 16 bit mode.

As to your other question, I've never used the stock lens flair effect in AE. Knoll Light Factory is the way to go.

I don't have Knoll Lighting Factory. but if I can't use Lens Flair in 16 bit then it's all moot anyway.

Thanks.

Lens flare "works" in 8 bit in a 16 bit project.

If you can get the effect you want in photoshop, you might apply it to an all black layer and bring it over that way (with the transfer mode as dodge or something similar). If the flare doesn't move, you should be fine.

Problem is I don't have Photoshop...

It was just too much trouble trying to keep it in place. It kept moving and I was wasting a lot of time on what was essentially a touch-up effect. Nothing too essential.

If I could learn to keep it in place I might try for it again, though.

What do you mean? You have to have Photoshop to use AE?

I admit, it took me a long time to get used to the layer concept, and it's a touch program to learn... but I've managed somehow. But yeah, it has been crazy. And still is.

You don't have to have photoshop, but I use it for doing most of the 2D work that goes into effects, plus filmstrips, etc.
