Lens Diffusion

We're matching a Mavic Pro to a cinema package that will use funky vintage sphericals heavily diffused (pro mist mostly). Any thoughts on how to soften up the Mavic lens? Pro or DIY solutions are welcome!
 
I really love real glass diffusion, but I think this would be done better in post. Tiffen DFX should help. The artificial sharpening that DJI uses on their cameras can make diffusion look odd and the wide lens will pick up glare and lights easily and blow out the image in a way that is hard to control.
