Legit or fraud?

Just bought Vegas 5 + DVD & Sound Forge from a guy on ebay (yes scary). Before I bought I asked if it was new or a copy--he said new and could be registered. So I bought. What I got was a blank white faced cd that had the three programs on it with key generators. I thought key generators were just for hacking/cracking software, so asked him for a refund and thought that they were bootlegs. He insists that they are legit, legal sony promos cds.

My question: Could he be telling the truth? Or is he totally full of it? Does anything legit come with key generators?

If I wanted the illegal copies I could have gotten them for free on limewire--I am trying to be legit here. Thanks for the input.

Re: Legit or fraud?

Vegas, DVD Arc and Sound Forge all come on their own disks in the real world. Sounds like a copy to me. BTW, was it a good price? ;D

Re: Legit or fraud?

No legit software should come with a key generator... that's not a good sign. If it was legit it would have come with a single key labeled on the case. The fact that all three were on a single CD also does not bode well.

Get the guy to give you a refund and report the guy.

Re: Legit or fraud?

I got it from a guy in England through a second chance offer on ebay. I got a very good price for it all--though not really if it's all bootleg stuff that you can get for free if you're into that. Others however were paying a lot for it.

I still feel robbed and want to get as much info and advice and then plan my recourse.

Re: Legit or fraud?

Nothing that is distributed by Sony is going to have a blank white label. This is a bootleg.

Re: Legit or fraud?

Definatly get your money back. If it isn't bad enough that you would be working with illeagal copies of the software, with which doing any kind of work that you would sell would just make things worse. But the worst part, for you at least will be when you go to upgrade. If you have not actually registered the software with sony, upgrading is going to be impossible. So however much you just spent, you still don't have a complete version, meaning upgradeablility.

Re: Legit or fraud?

I now see that all his other auctions are gone from ebay and he is no longer a registered user. Guess he has started running, the prick.

And yeah...bad Karma for me using bootlegged stuff. Not that I'm a saint and have never burned a cd or the like...but I'm not selling the things on ebay as new product.

Re: Legit or fraud?

Report the user to ebay and Sony, selling one copy of bootleg will get him five years. Do you have a shipped from address? If he did it once he'll do it again.

It's people like that - bootleggers - that make good software go up in price.
Do the world a favor and please report this person.

Re: Legit or fraud?

I gave Ebay a try and won an auction for Vegas and DVD architect.

The seller wouldn't respond to my questions of it's legitimacy, I checked some of his other items and in one of them he actually admitted to it being a copy, but insisted that it worked fine.

2 weeks have passed and I still have that item on my list to pay for, but haven't heard from seller and there is no way that I will buy it now. I have reported the seller and I'll see what happens.

Last night I bought another copy of vegas through ebay and this guy included a picture of the booklets and cd's as proof of their legitimacy. Paying 509 USD for it and it includes dvd architect.

Re: Legit or fraud?

I find that ebay is way too lenient on bootleggers. They say that after multiple offenses they MAY suspend your account. Big whoop. Really is risk free for them.

Any chance if I report this guy to Sony they would give me a deal on the software?
