I heard there is a insurance policy we can put on our video equipment, companies like Allstate or State Farm. Is that true? after all, this is a form of business and without it, were doomed.

A good friend of mine had his PD-170 and accessories taken at gunpoint. So Im just thinking about the possibilities right now.

Disclaimer: This pertains to "non-professional" insurance, but I thought I would share anyways...

For "non-professional" use I had to schedule my DVX separately in order to be covered for any damage (stupidity, etc) or loss (theft, fire, etc). The additional premium was $16 per $1000 (so roughly $55/yr for my DVX).. .

I found out the hard way that my regular home owner’s insurance does not cover a video camera ($900 Sony) being dropped in a very deep lake... Ironically I found the following interesting facts about my regular home owner’s policy (before the separate scheduling).
  • If you’re filming out a car window, the camera falls out of your hands, and gets totaled. It’s not covered.
  • Now the same incident happens, but the camera bounces and hits the car behind you. Then it is covered (it made contact with a moving vehicle)...
I would recommend thinking of every possible scenario you might encounter and drilling the insurance agent on each one...
