I have recently been asked by a client to tape a deposition and create a legal video. I have been researching this and wanting to get into it anyway, so I guess now is my chance. Can anyone here give me some direction on where to look for a good legal video training kit or other important information that I can learn from. Any little bit helps and I appreciate it!!!

If you mean the kind of legal deposition video that is shown in court when a witness/professional can't be there, they are pretty simple. The ones that I saw on jury duty was just a camera on a tripod with two-three (max) lights and a lapel mic (or boom if you so desire). I think editing it would be illegal because you could take things out of context.

Charge them as much as you can get away with... lawyers do not care about the costs... they just pass them on to their clients!! I heard about a guy in Chicago that charges $300 a hour for video depositions! He lives in Highland Park (near Michael Jordan!!!)

Once the tape has begun, make sure you get basic information(full name, occupation, age, etc.) from all parties present, even if they are not being asked questions, they are still witness to the event as are you. This should be recorded on the tape along with where and when(law firm name, address, date and time).

Another thing to keep in mind is that some states require full discloser to the participants that they are in fact being verbally and visually recorded. I know you think it would be obvious but that way they can't claim some type of coercion later on.

I agree on the costs, x amount per hour, x amount per equipment piece, x amount per tape copy, etc.

Good Luck
