Legal Issues?

I am going to be working on a new movie this summer, and I would like to know where I can find out all of the legal and illegal things that can be shown in my movie. For example, If I am filming in a downtown area and a shot of a McDonalds comes out in the background of the shot, would I have to ask McDonalds for permission to use that in the film? (Sidenote: This film will be entered in film festivals and sold to the general public)

Is there anyone who knows this information, or at least somewhere that I can find this information?

Re: Legal Issues?

You should be safer then sorry... logos of anything is copyright, so technically you need to get clearance to use them, but not alot of people do. I know its not the answer you are looking for, but you should offer a entertainment laywer $100 to sit down with him for 30 minutes to go through with you. The net has alot of good info, but alot of bad info as well... for legal issues if you hire a laywer at least if hes wrong you can claim bad council :)

Re: Legal Issues?

Thanks, I think I will contact a lawyer. But, is there a book of some kind that offers this information?

Re: Legal Issues?

Like the Internet, books have good info and also bad info. Copyright law changes all the time, so the only way to be sure is to check with a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
