LED flashlight...

Anyone have or seen those flashlights that use the bright white or blue LED light bulbs? My co-worker had one the other night on a shoot and I was amazed at how strong the beam was from that small flashlight! It is no more than 5 or 6 inches in length. The light is similiar to those HID lights on your high end cars.

Sharper image wants $69.95 for the flashlight. I am curious if there is something similiar but for cheaper. $69 isnt that bad in terms of how bright the light is and how far the beam can spread!

Re: LED flashlight...

i dont know if they exist on the east coast...but out here we have a place called frys electronics...they are like an electronics super store type place...tons of cool led flashlights/parts.

Re: LED flashlight...

Dude, as much as I hate to say this, go check out Walmart. You can get a flashlight of that sort for something like $15. I hate Walmart but it does come in handy at times....

Granted, I don't know how the quality compares but the lights I have seen there seemed plenty rugged to me.

Re: LED flashlight...

I know a good LED Light, they are made by Gerber, they only use 1 LED, and 1 AA battery, but they are housed in a sleek machined aluminum tube, and come in red, blue, white, and I believe also green....they are called the "cmg infinity" and they work awsome. They usually go for around 20 bucks....

Re: LED flashlight...

I am not sure which one my co-worker has but he says when he turns it on, the bulb kinda warms up for a second before it goes to full brightness. Are the LED bulbs brighter and better than the XENON bulbs?

Re: LED flashlight...

LED bulbs are deffinetly not brighter than XENON bulbs. However, they last longer. LED's also dont have the focus or spotlight characteristics of a XENON or halogen bulb. They throw a more diffused light. I use them for almost everything, they're tough, use very little power, and never burn out. XENON on the other hand (like surefire lights etc...) Get hot, and eat power like crazy. However, they throw a more concentrated beam, and are much brighter. Surefire makes a light though that has the best of both worlds, I believe its called the "aviator" and it has a Xenon bulb in the center surrounded by 3 LED's. you can switch between the two, its super expensive though, but among the nicest toughest lights you can buy.
