lectro 411a or 401 receiver?

Hi all,

Im taking the plunge and upgrading my receivers to 4 series lectrosonics.

im just a lil concerned about whether to go with the 411 or 401 unit.

my work:
i do MAINLY eng style work, but occassionally (once/twice a year), i shoot a drama/feature/set of commercials. So im usually, but not ALWAYS in the bag.

my concern:
i love that the 411 has removable antennae.
i dont like that it uses two 9v batteries to power it, as i dont use a bds.
i love that the 401 uses AA, but the antennae thing bugs me a little.

anyone using these units/any advice?

cheers,
tim

I have a collection of 401 and also use the 411 from a fellow mixer when I need extra from time to time. The antennas can provide a bit more reach in certain circumstances but nothing that I have noticed using them side by side.

I have just never seen enough advantage for the extra $$$...and the AA are much cheaper and easier (NiMH rechargables will cover a full 8 hour day, you will need to switch out if you go over 8).

I sold a few extra 401 sets a few months ago, had gotten 5 extra earlier last year. I still might want to sell one or two more. PM if you are interested in a set.

Cheers

doesn matter45b , same range , the 411 have better front end if you transmit from your bag - if not , dont even look for 411s
also i know few people who did replace he antennas on 201 with sma connectors , so i guess it may done on 401

great... thats two people with opinions WORTH listening to, so im going to get the 401s.

thanks guys.

Tim, You have another option - the Venue Bag system. I'm seriously looking at it because it is flexible and at the same time can work on cart or in the bag and it runs on 1 NP-1 battery. It's pretty reasonable to add modules to it ($285 each here in the U.S.).

Hi Chaps.. long time!

i've got the 411 receiver and thank goodness I did, because when the reciever is in the bag near my 744, the amount of rf given off the 744 is schocking, so with the 411 I can fly a remote antenna easily and all is well. I think the AA reciever has hardwired antennae, is that right?

Tim, have you not bought yourself the iPowerus 9v rechargable batteries yet? as long as your careful with them, (always putting the rubber nipples on to avoid shorting) they are very good.

hey, yeah long time mate... hope you well.

hmmm. nice feedback, but ive gone with the 401 systems (yes, hardwired antennae)... mainly because i dont do bag recording work ever (although hopefully that would change someday. doubt it with our industry here) and also because of the battery situation.

i DO own the ipower systems, and they ROCK, but i prefer compatibility between my devices, and i also like that the 401 has a lower voltage operation than the 411, and is a bit smaller.

i suspect my next purchase in lectrosonics receivers will be two 411's, or the venue you suggested phil. then ill be able to do it all. :) for now though, the 401 is better for my average working day...

thanks for the feedback man...

oh, and phil - i love that system! but its BIG dude! i like to be a ninja in the field and for me, small is gold. ;) so ill put the venue in my wishlist for now...

thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback.
