Least compression and highest quality

I'm using Avid for my NLE. What is the best file format and codec that I should use to achieve the least of compression and highest quality?
 
The end result would be for DVD and/or film. However, in this question I'm talking about bringing the footage into Avid. Some of my footage are in mpeg, m2t, and avi. I like to use a consistant format with least compression when importing the footage into Avid for editing.
