I have always been careful about computer crashes with Premiere. Usually it happens when rendering large files. There are a few things that really are problematic
1. photographs that have not been scaled down to 72dpi. If you start to notice your pictures turning green or black then check the dpi and size 720x 480
2. In a timeline with embedded sequences you must render them as you go. If I try to do a large project at once it crashes. Even then with a larger project I must restart the computer with every 20 minutes of timeline. And of course I save after I do any kind of work.
3. I have a relatively new computer with 2 gig ram, 3 large hard drives and 4 fans. One of the fans that cools the graphics card went bad. My computer was crashing a lot and once with a huge project that I thought I lost. I replaced the fan, got it back from the shop and I smelled something like burning rubber. It needed another fan even larger fan. If a graphics card gets warm it really messes with the preformance.
hope this may help others
