Leaked pictures and video of the new Nikon mirrorless full frame camera

Great features from Nikon but comes short, a single card slot renders this camera for amateurs and consumers rather than professionals. Cards will fail sooner or later and if you are getting paid to capture video or photos you better be recording to a dual card system. Sony still rules, will wait to see what Canon has in store next month but Nikon is not a serouis contender for me at this point.

Yes, in stills two card slots for simultaneous "record" is the norm on the professional side, but as far as video, my C300 is the only camera I have that can record internally to two cards at the same time for a back-up. My VariCam with five slots cannot and my F55 with two slots cannot. But these cameras are writing to proprietary professional media and not off-the-shelf consumer media. Second but, BUT I'd love to have the option on every camera for dual-record internally.

The memory card choice does put me off a bit, as does the lack of a headphone jack, fully articulating LCD and 10 bit internal. But those are more annoyances than anything. I've owned and shot with plenty of cameras that don't have those things. I'm in the studio today shooting video with a couple Canon 6D cameras for example.

I'm curious about its weather sealing, does it have any?

Otherwise, I like the look of the ergonomics. I like that it's full frame and shoots 4K without a crop. I like that it at least offers a 10bit HDMI output.

I don't care for fly-by-wire lenses but they seem to be all the rage these days with manufacturers. Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, now Nikon. But at least you can adapt older lenses or other non fly-by-wire lenses to these mirrorless cameras and Nikon offers a first party adapter for a variety of older F mount lenses. I do own some of those Nikon lenses since I keep an old FE film camera around.
$330 is pricey for an adapter, at least for me, but I like that it's an option that exists.

Now if they can only bring an XLR audio attachment for the shoe like Panasonic and Sony offer, that would be great. Don't know if that's a hot shoe that can offer that option though. You'd think if it could they would have announced that with the cameras, so probably not.

I find it laughable that the vari and 5 cannot do this- the Nikon less so

Yeah...

The F55 can kinda sorta do it, if you have a Sony R5 or R7 RAW recorder docked to the camera, the camera can record an XAVC(up to 2K) copy internally while you shoot RAW or XOCN on the R5/7.

I like the footage.

I mean give me a break...you provide those kind of images to any client and they will be elated.

Not everything has to look super flat and controlled, and every Hollywood movie on earth has scenes with "blown highlights".

Always loved Nikon colors. Even though I won't buy one, it's a refreshing release.

Screen grab of a video on-line, so I won't judge the camera just on that, but on my monitor, skin tones and hair have a lot of green.

I personally don't think so...I watch hours and hours of Vimeo and YouTube every week and it's a jungle...absolutely no right or wrong anymore.

So many different looks.

One may have the "perfect" grade and half of the audience may be watching it on monitors with the tint @ -40, ha.

I'm beginning to think for the first time in my life that audio is more important than video.

Grading it to look one way is one thing... I meant more along the lines they hire us and pay us, because we (supposedly) know what we're doing. We can make it look a certain way, of catch a mistake and make sure it doesn't look a certain way.

As much as we hate to hear it, we all have always known that audio is more important. If you have bad video, you can cover that up with other video. If you have bad audio, you just have bad audio.

Not impressed by the video quality in this clip here at all:

The last two log clips one can clearly see the application of a LOOK/LUT/GRADE forces clipping - which I assume to be entirely user error in the colour room.

It does not put me off (or amaze me)

im not very impressed either. I'm baffled why they would upload only @ 1080 if this is to show the capabilities of its 4k? the grading was rookie looking to me and agree completely with your comment.

The video is 4K.

If you're on a Mac and using Safari or Firefox, it's not supported.

Try Chrome and you'll see the 4K "capabilities".

Wow, that's some seriously average looking video. Those transitions, woof. I don't think they are trying to appeal to pros at all with this video or the camera.

Well, the irony is that 99% of buyers will be photographers.

Most people on the forums always hate these Japanese camera promos...whether it's the Z7 or the C200 or the EVA1 or the Venice, no one's ever happy yet barely anyone shows their own work.

Coming from stills and shooting raw since the d70 or something in maybe 2003 I don’t see why stills togs are seen a soft sell.

Ive wanted NEF video for more than 10 years.

NEF video would finish the race- and leave Alexa in the gutter
