LCD viewfinder Shade

I'm wondering if there is a shade that fits on the LCD viewfinder for bright day shooting? Does it work with the Anamorphic lens? Where can I get one?
Thanks.

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

I've got the EVS one, and it works great. The only downside is that you sometimes have to take it off to get to the buttons.

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

i saw a good suggestion sometime back and although i own the petrol shade (and use it quite a bit - its good) i like this idea:

take a sheet of thin plastic - like the cover of a lightweight 3-ring binder - and cut it in a strip to a width of your liking (probably 3 inches or so) and length that is equal to the distance across the top and down the side of the screen. (again - haven't done this - might do it today and i'll post the dimensions)

then take the plastic and score it lightly at the point where it needs to bend from the horizontal to the vertical section of the screen.

put a small strip of velcro on the top edge and side edge of the screen frame and corresponding parts of the plastic 'shade' and go!

it leaves the bottom and right side of the screen uncovered thus allowing easy access to the buttons - AND can be taken off/on easily and stored in your pocket.

i'll do this today and post some pics - i've been meaning to for a while.

I'm on my third attempt at cobbling up a shade. The hard part isn't making the shade. The hard part is making the shade fit the viewfinder snuggly enough so it'll stay...

I'm hesitant about gluing crap to my new camera, but pressure/tension/friction fittings aren't doing all that well.

I've got another design in my head...maybe try it this weekend.

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

the home-made shade i currently use is made of soft black 1/4" thick foam rubber. i picked up a little sheet of it at the craft store . and cut it into the shape i wanted for the shade, and scored the corners so it would fold there, then i attached a stretchy strap to the part that sits flat on the LCD, the strap stretches a little, and fits snuggly around the top of the LCD holding the hood to it perfectly flat and tight. its foam rubber so i can fold it up and put it in a pocket or small pouch in the camera bag.. its also 100% waterproof, cost about 2.00 to make, and looks nice.

i dont use the little mattebox anymore cause ive purchesd them since, but i still have it :)

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

I use the Petrol hood and I think it is great! At only $25, how can you go wrong?

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

the petrol hood is good, but as stated above, in order to get to some of the controls on the left side of the camera, you have to flip the screen/hood up. a bother and not a good thing at times.

my hood mod is done - pics in a few.

D'oh! :o

It just never occured to me to have the shield sit on the front of the LCD frame.

I've been going around the the outside of it...

I have the Hoodman H-400, it's perfect, I can't go out on a sunny day without it now.

IAL, how did you find the homemade mattbox’s performance? Did it do a suitable job all things considered? Thanx

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

Flaca,
I'm curious about how you attached it to the LCD. You say you used Velcro. Did you attach those sticky velcro strips to the edge? If so, did it affect your ability to close the screen? If not, how did you do it?

Re: LCD viewfinder Shade

sorry for the delay in responding:
velcro across the top of the screen has no impact on closing it. it doesn't bind anywhere like putting velcro on the side of the screen.
