I have seen discussion of this on here already and have found that most people say that you can use an LCD tv for a monitor as long as you are not trying to use it for accurate color reproduction. For example, I am just looking for a larger monitor to focus with and be able to let other people on set other than just the camera operator to see what is being shot. I am not talking about a monitor that I would mount on the rails, I am talking about a monitor that would sit on a cart or something off to the side.
This is the one I am thinking about getting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889107040
I would use s-video to connect it from the dvx. My main question is that I usually shoot letterbox mode and change aspect to anamorphic 16:9 in post. I believe that there is a noticeable difference in quality due to the lack of bandwidth needed for the black stripes which gives the image area less overall compression. (If someone can convince me to start using squeeze mode then I may consider it. Its just that I have heard bad things about loss of resolution.) Anyway, my point is that this is a 16:9 tv and if I were to shoot with either 4:3 mode or non-anamorphic letterbox mode, would the image be stretched on the tv or be windoboxed. Either of these outcomes would not be good as I would like just the image portion of the letterbox to fill the entire 16:9 screen area. If this is not possible than I may consider switching to using squeeze mode because I know that this would fill the screen.
