Greetings all. I posted this on the DIY and wanted to get more feedback... Here goes:

I just recently bought the Dell 2405 widescreen LCD and I want to get a mount for the LCD to fit directly onto a C-stand. I don't mind buying one.. and I came across
this unit for sale.. but it's 260 bucks.

Anyone think they could build one.. or know of a website that sells something similar. I was also thinking of building a monitor platform based on some inexpensive grip gear.

Anyone got some ideas or recommendations?

Thanks

Bogen markets a three piece kit including their super clamp, swivel, and a shelf for a laptop with straps for about $100. The super clamp will attach to the top of a C-Stand by clamping onto the tube and then plug the swivel into the female stud mount. You could use a coupling on the c-stand and swivel and skip the superclamp. The shelf is about 12" wide and somewhat strong. If you don't mind a vertical mount, the shelf alone will plug in direct onto the C-Stand.

Here's an awesome solution and it's cheap... I did a bunch of research and I've decide on a simple solution.

I already have several C-stand and grip heads.. so, I'm going to be buying this baby plate to go into the grip head and I'll build a small wooden 1 inch solid platform to screw into the baby plate. From here, I'd be free to buy any type of LCD stand.. and preferably one that I can bolt/screw into the wooden platform and I'll leave it together like that. That way, I can leave the Dell stand in the office.. just take the LCD, C-stand, and combo platform stand and baby plate for the location.

There are also options to convert the babyplate to a female stud.. or to do the same to the C-stand. I'll be able to get the stand, babyplate, and wooden plaform for probably less than 50 bucks.

Glad my search is over. I won't have to pay 260 bucks... and it'll be a simple and study solution...

What do you guys think? Possibly going with different hardware?

Dell 2405 C-Stand Plate

Just thought you all might be interested. I have found and retro-fitted a vesa mount that bolts onto the standard mounting plate on the back of the Dell 2405. This is a true C-stand mount made of cast-aluminum with Matthews type clamps and is rock solid. If any one is interested i can do a small production run. I would say the cost will be about $125.00 with all hardware. I am also making a version for my jib-arm, my set ups are mostly for jib/dolly work.

Looks nice! I enjoy diy stuff so at home depot I got some steel 1/2" hardware (1/2" nipple to 90 degree elbow to 1/2" - 1/4" reducer to 1/4" x 5" nipple). It makes a L shaped pin handy for attachment to a grip head. I connect it to this:

Then screw the lampholder cover onto a 1/4" thick 1' square plywood which I duct tape onto my foamcore. I use black, white foam core and even have some painted different colors like shiny metalic siver/gold.

Also to hold our monitor/laptop w/ DV Rack, we use a heavy duty music stand like this:

Cheap solution and works fairly well. Make sure you got some good sandbags!

I bought one of these from Markertek about 15 seconds after I received my Panasonic LT-BH1700W monitor. Have used it (happily) ever since . . . stand and mount complete, $89.95

Modern Studio Equipment makes a variation of their monitor sled that has a VESA mount. You can adjust the angle or flip it over easily (for 35mm adapter applications). Ran about $120 and uses a TVMP for the connector so it can fit in baby or junior stands.
