LCD Hoods?? Anyone use Pana's Hood100?

When I had my DVX I used a 3.5" LCD hood from "hoodman" but was never all that happy with how it attached to the LCD via 2 velcro staps. Also.....it always seemd to slip off. I am trying to get info on the Pana HOOD100 product that they sell for the DVX100 and that Barry recently said will work on the HVX. Anyone used this or can you point me to actual images or review? I did a search and can only find prices and online retailers that don't seem to have any photos or specs.
I am wondering how it attaches.....

Thanks in advance......

I got the Hood100 and have been quite pleased. It stays on no matter what, and is quite effective.

Petrol makes at least part of it, byw. It attaches by stretchy thingy.

My hood is getto, but it's free!!!!!!!!!

well, almost free. What I did was take some heavy black wrap and mold it into the rights shape and taped the edges with gaff tape. It works great and is much lighter than any of the market brands. I've used it countless times on exterior shoots.

OK. I just got the Pana Hood100 which is made by petrol and mounted it on the DVX100 and I am thinking....what a piece of junk! It just seems cheap. I guess maybe I was expecting too much but I am extremely underwelmed.

I previously owned the Hoodman and didn't care for it too much but it doesn't seem too shabby now. I may just have to learn to live with this unit. I do have a couple of questions for anyone who has this or has used it.

1)Does anyone else have problems with the LCD hood hitting the camera? I cannot really do any pivoting of the LCD without it hitting the DVX itself. I also cannot get to any of the controls under the LCD. I didn't have this issue with the hoodman.

2)The darn thing seems mildly warped. When looking into the unit the top piece seems to bow down slightly obscurring the top part of the LCD. I have applied pressure to try and get it to "unbow" or straighten but it hasn't helped yet. Also...absolutely no directions on how to set it up. Took a few minutes to figure it all out.

thanks!

I guess I thought this thing looked like a sturdier unit in the very few pictures out there.

Yeah, it's not going to win any prizes for impressive display. It pretty much gets the job done, although to the casual observer it may look impressive. The materials aren't the best, but they aren't bad.

The hoodman does restrict access to the behind-LCD controls, but not badly--just an extra step to get to them. No piviting problems, unless you mean folding it in.

Having said all that, I love mine. It does exactly what I need it to do, and I've never been unhappy with it. You have to remember you are only paying $24.00 for it.

lpcvideo,
The problem with pivoting occurs when the plastic attachment is on. Since it slides over the "fabric" part is sticks out further and when pivoting rubs against the "latch" area of the DVX. It can pivot but not without bumping or grazing the body. When I take that off it is much smoother. Do you always have that extra plastic piece on?

I realize it is only $24 but I guess I expected something more from the official Panasonic LCD shade than the Hoodman. In all fairness the hoodman was about the size of the "basic" hood100 without the "plastic" add-on so that made it fit better. If I don;t mount the plastic part then it has plenty of room. With the plastic it clearly rubs the body and adds resistance.

I hate Petrol products. They are like WAY lame versions of Kata products.

Have you actually used the century optics LCD hoods that you referred to before? I know it is more expensive but if it is solid and locks on good it might be worth it.
This one is working out OK....but was just expecting something better.
