LCD=color representation

For us poorer folk that cant afford even the cheapest monitor, Does the LCD screen on the DVX give a good idea what the colors are going to be? I'm getting a pretty different look on the monitor than i do on the LCD.

No, not really. In fact, I would say the LCD gives very poor results of what the final video will actually look like. You will get better results getting just a normal television, with S video at least, and use that as your reference monitor.

You can get closer to what it will look like for real if you turn down everything in the setup menu. I don't rememebr what they're called at the moment, but I dropped all of them down to about 2 blocks from the left to get it pretty close to what it should be.

Good-ish for color and lighting representation. Bad for seeing what you're doing.

Better to have a real monitor of some sort.

How about this....I dont have an S-video out on my comp. While my DVX is connected to my computer, can i connect my DVX to a TV. Will that work?

Yes. I had mine connected to DV Rack via firewire and a portable DVD player via the RCA output at the same time.

GREAT IDEA...portable DVD player. i can use it for editing..and playing my DVDs. that is sexy.

Just make sure you find one with a decent screen. I went cheap...but I only use it for framing, so it doesn't matter too much.

If you want it for focussing, you'll need mucho lines of resolution...and that gets expensive. Possibly to the point where you'd be better off getting a real field monitor.

If you plan on having a computer hookup, why not get DV Rack ? For a few hundred bucks, you get an onscreen monitor that you can calibrate, a vectorscope plus dozens of incredibly useful tools !

I'm so addicted to DVRack I'm contemplating buying a laptop just to bring to shoots with me. :rolleyes:
