LCD blew up.

I loaned my Lilliput 7" LCD to a friend the other day, and he didn't even have it for an hour when he plugged the AC adapter to my battery pack straight into the LCD's input.

He said it started smoking, then stopped working.

Anybody know if this is repairable?

or am I sh!te out of luck?

Yeah, no kidding. What's worse is that EVERYTIME I loan gear to this person, something gets funked up. Now he knows he can never borrow gear from me, though, so at least that's out of the picture.

I just searched around an electronics forum, and think I'll be able to fix it. It involves tearing it all apart and a little soldering, but hopefully it'll work out OK.

Did you give him instructions or warnings on how to use it properly? If so, or if there were clear written versions of same, then he should pay for the repair or replacement. This sort of thing is exactly why rental companies require deposits. If you bring back a damaged piece, you lose what it costs to fix it.

If all the above applies, and your friend has integrity, he should accept the responsibility.

Thanks guys... and yes, he definitely offered to pay. Problem is, I know he's not working very much right now at all (he's a grip), and he's been having enough trouble coming up with rent money as it is. I don't want to be the cause of him getting kicked out of his apartment because he owes me a little cash.

I'm not too worried. I'll try and fix it, and if I can't, I'll pick up another one and sell this one for parts.
