layering effects or transitions...

I have never tried to layer an effect over another effect or a transition over another one. Is this possible in FCP?

Also has anyone seen an effect where the clip is keyframed to get smaller while the second clip is being revealed and when it is full screen the original 1st clip runs off the screen? Thats right the clips apect ratio changes and the clip runs right off the screen like it had feet! I just watched a pilot my co-worker is working on and that effect was tripping me out! The editor doesn't have FCP so I don't know how he was able to do that effect/transition.

Re: layering effects or transitions...

Yes, you can easily layer in FCP. Just drag clip above the video track and it will add another layer.

Double click on clip in timeline and click on motion tab.
Change scale under basic motion and aspect ratio under distort expander arrows. Turn key framing on and set start and end frame settings you'd like.

Re: layering effects or transitions...

I'm afraid it's impossible to layer a transition onto another one in FCP, unless you export a clip out of the first transitioned section and reinject it into your sequence.

At least as far as I know.

If anyone has a secret to do so, please share it. It would sure turboboost the community !

Re: layering effects or transitions...

You can layer about as many filters you want, within the limitations of your Mac's processors and RAM: it's merely a question of render time you're ready to spend.

But concerning transitions, there is no possibility outside the one I mentioned before (again unless I missed something).
