My REVIEW

Directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Daniel Craig , Tom Hardy, George Harris, Eddie Temple

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375912/

Layer Cake takes on a different atmosphere than the aformentioned films with partner Guy Ritchie.

The film can be gritty, or it can be elegant.
Certain scenes will catch you off guard, and its a movie that DEMANDS your attention.

There are a bunch of storylines, but they remain central and involved with the protagonist rather than non-linear. Its multi-linear until its bottlenecked into a climax which provides some closure and inspires a lot of thought.

The most enjoyable part of this film was the cinematography. I loved it. The brilliant angles, the flawless use of CGI, these are things that make a movie a lot better for me. Thats what made me vote the way I voted.

The story is fresh, and interesting......but again, some people may not like the whole "drug-underworld" theme.

Pros: Funny! Brilliant Camera angles. Well-balanced action, and enough of it.
Cons: Its hard to understand sometimes, but thats what you get when you are dealing with cockney accents. The cons are minimal, you just have to really pay attention to get the most out of the film.

I'm up for it, Lock stock and snatch were both great films, plus I heard this director is moving on to X3 as his next project.... I't just weird how people get to direct major features these day's, I mean you can go from unknown to a status director in very little time...

I have it on my computer, but I can't really share it I don't think.

Its well worth the buy.....or at least watch for it coming out in the states
you can get it on amazon.co.uk or play.com
both UK sites

Man, just watched this the other night and was glued to the screen. it's a very good look into the workings of the drug game with enough twists to keep you watching. I'm thinking about picking up the novel to see what differences there may be.

awesome movie

ya, it's amazing nowadays at all these directors popping out of nowhere and directing big features

but I'm sure they have been directing no name features for a while

Pretty pysched for this film. Any idea when it is coming to theatres? Imdb.com only says soon. Daniel Craig is becoming a pretty big actor, wouldn't mind seeing him as a hardnosed Bond.

Limited release in N.Y and L.A May 13th.

Matthew Vaughn - married to Claudia Schiffer, rich, directed successful movie, courted by major Hollywood Studios. Good thing I'm not an envious person. :-)

I just heard Matthew Vaughn turned down a lucrative deal with ICM, when the head of it dissed Guy Ritchie in an interview. I find this heartening, if true. To choose friendship and loyalty over career.

If you look on Page 1, you will notice people HAVE seen it already (myself included)...
I just hope this gets a national release because its that damn good!

I love most brit crime flicks and love snatch and lock stock, but Layer Cake didn't do much for me. The story, characters and structure was kinda flat compared to the above mentioned flicks. When the dvd comes out, I'll watch it again with subtitles because those brit accents went over my head. Half the movie might as well have been in another language to this hillbilly whiteboy. That might have been the problem.

BTW The directors making the 3rd x-men movie.

Just read in IMDB or Yahoo ? news that Mathew Vaughn is off the X-men 3 movie. They said he didn't want to uproot his family to L.A.

Huh ??? Two months before the movie he suddenly figures out he'll have to go to L.A and Vancouver to film it ?

I'd like to hear the real story:)

Cheers.

Yeah, couldn't believe that news about Vaughn myself. Was that the reason, though? I thought that it was something more serious. What kind of guy would pass up an opportunity like this? Well, looks like Joss Whedon is going to take his place and they'll keep the casting--it'll be good, but I was so looking for to what Vaughn could do with a big budget.
