Lavalier Overmod issue

Hey audio geniuses!

I have a Sennheiser evolution wireless lav system that seems to be giving me issues. It has an overmodulating sound to it, even when my levels are really low. I attempted to use it on a shoot this last week, and it sounded terrible. Does anyone have any advice on what is happening here? Do I have to get a new mic?

Thanks for your support

check the the reciever out - you maybe feeding your camera in mic level while the reciever adjusted to line for line .
by the way there is complete thred here somewhere where i explained
how to callibrate wireless sytsms

...sorry, my levels were really low on my camera...but I readily admit that I *don't * know if my wireless is properly calibrated. I'll look for that thread...thanks Oleg.

Hey Oleg....there is sure a lot of "Oleg" out there! Can you please be more specific....did you start a thread that had the word "calibrate" in the title, or was your thread a response to someone else's question?

Am trying the search, but not finding your thread. Thanks for the help!

dont remember
but that is the prossiger
you thirst calibrate the transmitter thet in high level picks will light the limmiter(yello led) ocasinaly , if it light all the time go down the level , the picks must go that in normal speach it will almost go to -5 -7 db on tx scale
then opgo to reciever and calibrete it to naximun + 12 db
then place the line /mic swith on your camear a to line
then calibrate the pot that in normal speach it wil hit at least first red dot (-12db)
you may open the alc ( camera limiter which kick arund -6 dbfs)
if the level is to low open th pot more

You've probably already checked this, Spiral, but make sure you're using fresh batteries in the transmitter and reciever.

I just finished the dialogue edit for a documentary in which they never changed the batteries in the wireless. Of course, they didn't have a dedicated sound person, and the cameraperson didn't like wearing headphones. The last day's interview sounds like a talking angle grinder.

Hey thanks everyone for the info and feedback! I know I sound a little thick, but since I have never owned a lavalier before, I didn't understand that I needed to calibrate it, hence never feeling like I needed to dig through the manual....live and learn .

...battery issue, good point, I'll have a look at that :-)

Ps.....

Ps.....

....What would I ever do without ya'll! Oleg , with your "heads up" and the Dv Creators video, I fixed the issue no problem! Thanks SOOO much for that link, Michael !!
