Lav Interference

I have a Sennheiser G3 Lav and every once and a while I'll get this kind of interference:

Do you know what might cause that and what I can do to minimizes it or hopefully prevent it all together.

Sounds like RF [Radio Frequency] interference from another frequency.... Did you use the 'scan' function on the radio mic receiver when you set up that job?
With lots more RF around these days doing a 'scan' prior to a shoot at EVERY location has now almost become a 'standard' thing to do and should be treated so, just like leveling your tripod for example.

Well as per OzGizmo's advice I did a scan and it chose a different channel so I'm going assume that the channel I was using really did have a lot of interference. I did a small test and listened for about 5 minutes, even walked around my house while leaving the transmitter stationary and didn't hear even an ounce of interference. Definitely going to scan prior to shooting from now on.

Thanks for everyones help!

I only get this when there isn't a clear line-of-sight path from the G2 or G3 transmitter to the receiver, like when a subject is sitting at a metal desk and has the transmitter tucked underneath on their belt. Moving the transmitter or the receiver will usually fix this problem.

Sounds like ordinary signal drop out to me - solid signal, then the usual hissy dive and return. Transmitter and/or receiver in a null. Scanning won't cure it, and it's the kind of RF issue you cannot solve unless you plot out where nulls are and then don't move anything.

I concur with Paul, signal dropout. Could be a multi-path dropout with a non-diversity G2 or interference from another source
Use the Sennheiser frequency finder site, find an open channel in the area and test for RF at the site. The receiver's scan function is not sensitive enough IMO, but likely will work OK for a sparely populated RF areas.
