launch slowdown?

Does FCP get slower to launch when you add more clips to the browser or timeline? I've repaired permissions, run Diskwarrior, and trashed my FCP preferences, but it still takes several minutes to launch. About half the time is on the splash screen (the one with SN) and the rest it says something like "preparing for display." It was never this slow before. What gives?
 
As the overall project grows it will take much longer to open. I just timed my last project for you, it took almost 4 minutes to open. The specs:

90GB all video media included (FCP capture and AE files)
10.4MB FCP project file

Active sequence open contained:
816 Video Clips on the time line
one audio file imported from ProTools

Basically it would have taken much longer if it was the unmixed audio, I can't even begin to tell you how many thousand audio clips there were in the ProTools session. This was only a 17 minute project too. My Mac specs are below... Hope this helps you.
