Those who complain about the water in Signs also should be those who complain about micro-organisms in War of the Worlds. To me, both seemed like crappy answers for a burning question.

Spoken like a true prophet.

Well, if we were going to get into water, we'd have to get into the water vapor in "Batman Begins."

I guess no one takes showers in Gotham.

I already zapped the water argument out of the sky.

I watched Signs tonight with wife and child again; loved it. Objectively asked my wife what is wrong with the film and she said 'Nothing.... it isnt the best film ever but it's definatley a cool flick''

It's a tearjerker; from the wife dying, to Morgan having an asthma attack and Graham telling God he hates him, the scene at the dinner table, the end scene as Morgan makes it back.....

Joaquin and Mel are great in this and the comedic moments are brilliant and touching.

I dont know. Like War of the Worlds 'What didnt you like....?' (Let stupid ****ing answers come piling in...)

You people try to hard not to like films.

I never thought I would be saying this, but I'll put Signs on my list of movies to watch in the near future and I'll give it another chance. I expect that I'll still have the same issues with it, but it's the least I can do.

I've done that myself believe it or not. (re-watched a film and came out the other side)

I'd be curious to hear how it plays out.

Well ****; what movie do we discuss now?

uh oh - camper man didn't seem to like signs

Reviewer: Camper-mann "Camper-mann" (Oz) - See all my reviews
A lot of work went into building up this story. . . but then it just collapses into total absurdity. I mean, come on: aliens who melt, a la the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, from contact with water? Extraterrestrials who can navigate vast astronomical distances but can't get through a boarded up door? Advanced creatures whose most sophisticated weaponry is poison gas secreted through openings in their wrists?

Worse, the gas, which evidently is their only tactical weapon, necessitates intimate contact with the dangerous water-wielding humans because they seem to have no other way to deploy it except by squirting a whiff into their nostrils at close range.

First of all, what would aliens for whom H20 is a poison be doing in the first place on a planet that has so much of it?

Second, assuming you were able to unravel the mystery of the first question (I can't), then wouldn't superintelligent lifeforms have had the foresight to wear protective covering on planet Earth in the event that they might be bombarded with glasses of water from hostile humans?

At the very least you'd think they would carry umbrellas in case it rained, no?

The other thing I was wondering. . . oh forget it, what's the point?

What sort of idiots does this director think makes up his audience? (That, by the way, is a rhetorical question.)

A lot of people are also probably going to find the neo-Christian message of the film in the context of a cheesy B-movie thriller, well, enormously cheesy.

Still, Signs is better than the Village, though what both movies share in common is that their characters are so maddeningly passive in the face of danger it's impossible to care what happens to them.

I'd be curious to hear how it plays out.

I'll be sure to let you know. I'm mad-busy at the moment, so I'll get to it ASAP.

Well poo poo; what movie do we discuss now?

Um ... er ... M. Night wrote the script for Stewart Little, we could talk about that.

The alien's stupidity in Signs alone is enough to make the movie not work, on any level. Why the f*** would they come to a planet with people all made mostly of water in the first place???? It makes NO sense. NONE. And they can travel the galaxy but can't open a door??!!! WTF???!!!

The tension comes to a high point when they barricade themselves in the cellar and then BAM... the night is over and we won the war because of some old school thing we're never told about. Stupid. Just plain stupid. If you're using the alien schlock to get your story of this man's family and Mel finding his faith again (like we didn't know the cross was going to be back on the wall at the end) you have to at least pretend to flesh the alien part of the story out. Totally B.S.

Some good ideas and nicely shot sequences, but I can't get over the idocacy of the story's faults, which are major when we're supposed to believe the alien invasion.

I think I'm pretty easy to please movie wise. Just don't give me half baked nonsense as your story and I'm generally happy. If there are glaring holes in your story, I won't be happy. I'll even take bad acting if I like the story. Argh.

Some may disagree with this, but I think Signs is a stronger film than War of the Worlds. I think they're similar in that both try and tell the story of a traumatic event from the POV of a family on the ground.

I just thought Signs had more heart than War of the Worlds. I remember seeing War of the Worlds and coming out thinking, that's it? I don't think it amounted to that much, whereas with Signs that family story had more of a payoff.

Signs is MUCH stronger movie than War of the Worlds. Much more suspense, much more storytelling by what you DON'T see.

i don't know man. war of the worlds was a good movie if you knew going in that the ending was going to suck. That scene where that thing breaks out of the ground near the church was pretty freaking cool if you ask me. And scary.

the thing that bothered me about spielberg and the screenwriter is, when they were asked about the anti-climactic ending they always said "Well that's the ending in the book! So... are you going to change the original ending of War of The Worlds?" Hmm, that didn't stop you from burying the aliens 7 miles underground for 65 million years. Last time I checked, THAT wasn't in the book.

I'm always game for hearing what you cats would do differently. Always pointing the critics finger but never offering a better solution.

Who is camperman and why does he have a cult following?

You guys cannot be serious? (Johnny Mac tone)

Once again for those who missed it...

1. It most likely is'nt just water; but our water; we don't know but must assume that there was some chemical interaction between the Alien's skin (Cells) and our water. Do you kow what the element K (Pottasium ) does when touching water ? Maybe it was pure water and not the Salt water make-up of our oceans? Perhaps the aliens are hydrophobes?

Did you know there are elements that will produce toxic gases when coming into contact with water? Who fives a f u c k if they went to a water planet; it's no different than going to the volcano planet 'Just stay away from the volcanoes...'

They even say in the film that the ships are massing away from bodies of water. (Uh Doh Uhh)

See, I already mentioned all this and the fact you're still fixated on it tells me you arent paying attention and are'nt willing to adapt your thinking. So why debate it if the myopia is going ensue?

It's like killing a person with Peanut's. if they're allergic then it can be done. And you would be screaming "Peanuts? That's stupid."

And what is this nonsense about travelling the galaxy but not being able to open a door. Man can get to the moon but without the proper tools he is'nt going to be opening any barricaded doors. (Oh Oh sounds of juggling from naysayers)

My brother and I had a friend once who didnt like any film. We'd all go see a flick and walk out saying 'Hmm, not bad...' and he'd be like 'That's stupid....

You dude's try waaay too hard. And never are able to say what you would do differently or what would improve it.

Why is it stupid John? The aliens have freaking hands. They can clutch Mel's son at the end but can't turn a freaking door knob? GIVE ME A BREAK. That is the stupidest plot loophole I've heard in a really really long time.

As for the water, ok fine. They had an allergic reaction to it or something or another. Not saying that's stupid (though it is) but they don't even say how the aliens were defeated. Just some vague line about old methods and the desert or something. Just dumb.

Sorry man. I don't see it on this one. Bad writing.

Either because the door was barricaded with nails or Mel and Joaquin were holding it shut?

Next question?

We were told the story through the eyes of the family on the farm and few minor CNN broadcasts; not through he eyes of the Military hero and his Scientist sidekicks.

I'm not on a crusade to get you to like it; you can hate it with vengeance for all I care; its the lame reasons even after being demystified that slay me. As always; instead of saying 'That was lame dude!' tell us something of value.

Do some research; what would you have done? What would have worked better?

the reaosn i talk about water isnt even about the plot its just he keep using it all his movies. unbreakable i liked then in signs and now splash 2 electric boogaloo? his next movie H20?
