Late for Spyfest: Anywhere Man

I remember writing this thing furiously as soon as I read about Spy Fest. Sadly we were still researching equipment so the HVX arrived & it was too late.

There were a few influences for the main character but I'll leave that to your detective work. I'd appreciate any critiques, but mainly I wrote the script for you guys as an audience. Let me know what's fun and what's confusing!

The first link gives me a PDF file that looks encrypted (or is in some kind of strange font) and is unreadable. The second just takes me to what looks to be the WikiUpload mainpage, and does not have the file. Would love to read it, but so far both avenues are a dead-end.

Anyone else have this problem? I created the PDF with freeware called DeskPDF. But Adobe Reader opens it just fine for me. Not sure why a PDF would scramble the font.

The second link works, it just buries the link in ads on the right side. Shouldnt have any different effect on the PDF tho.

I don't have any problem with the first link. I think there were funny parts in there and it works best when the script sticks to the "fired spy looking for job" concept. But there were parts that were just confusing to me as they are written. Like that scene with the general. Who was that guy? Was he from the US or what? I have no idea what that whole conversation with preemptive strike is about. Same with the woman in the butcher shop, what was going on there?

I was able to open it with Acrobat and read the script (had opened it with Preview earlier). This seems too big in scope for a short; not necessarily in set pieces or budget, but there's just too much going on and not enough explained. It feels rushed. A short should have a handful of characters at most and tell a relatively contained story. That means that after you finish watching a short, you should feel satisfied and shouldn't get that feeling that you were missing something.

This could make a very interesting feature, however. You could definitely expand this thing quite a bit if you wanted to.

thanks jade & welton. great comments. I know exactly what you mean : shorts should be self contained and simple.

Extending it is definitely an idea now that Spy Fest is over. Perhaps an episodic or a 40 minute film. I actually realized several other concepts that I could combine with this very idea once you said that.

So thanks man!
