Last minute filming.

Guys, I need your help urgently. I'm supposed to be filming an event on this Friday. It's very last minute. I need a way to figure out how to get sound. I'm not sure if they have speakers or not. or a soundboard. (I should mention it's a forum for presidential candidates) I'm filming it guerrilla style, it will be going up on youtube probably. Sound however, is an important issue. If I can connect into their soundboard to get audio... I don't want to be trapped to the board. Any ideas? I have had no time to prepare. If they have speakers I was thinking I could get "OK" sound. If I could I would put a lapel mic on the Candidate, unfortunately I think because of everyone else's equipment going on I would get interference from the wireless lapel and I want to show up with as many possibilities as I can.

I have access to a shotgun mic as well. . . but I don't know how close I can get.
I'm at a loss. Can anyone help?

see if you can rent a Shotgun mic/wireless adapter like a Sennheiser, plug it into the board, and keep the reciever on your camera, then run one channel with another mic for back up.
