With all of the brain talent out there, there's got to be someone who's in the know!!! I have a timed event, well, actually a series of them in which people are racing against the clock. I need a way to drop in a timer that counts, in thousandths of a second, i.e XX.123, that I can drop into the timeline as the person is running and then stops when the person crosses the finish line. It shouldn't be that hard because I've alread assembled the timeline and thus I know who won and what the 10 competitors' times were. I should be able to cut the timer's footage to the exact thousandth of a second. match that las fame to where the guy crosses the finish line and let the rest of it trail backwards in the timeline to the start. Anyone have anyu ideas short of shooting an actual timer and then using that footage???

Well, FWIW here's what I'd do...

Using the animation tool of your choice, create a 00 - 29 changing-numbers animation, timed for frames. Make a 00 - 59 changing-numbers animation, for your seconds. Do likewise for your minutes, and hours (those might just be the particular range of numbers you'll actually need).

Your "thousandths" column might just be a blur; no one will likely ever be able to read the actual numbers, until you freeze-frame on them.

Now, string the appropriate number-elements in the proper sequence, separated by colons, or whatever.

Labor-intensive, but it's what comes to mind.

Or, you might try shooting footage of an actual LCD stopwatch, running through the appropriate times, and using keying, isolate the numbers and save them as a sequence to overlay on top of your live footage. I kind of doubt that the DVX will give you the kind of shot you need, but it may be worth trying.
