Large render hangs up at 96%

Hi guys. I'm not sure what my issue is, but I'm trying to render a 100 minute quicktime version of our latest feature for streaming, for our digital distributor.

Render settings are QuickTime 7, 3 Mbps for QT, Frame size HG 1920 x 1080, frame rate 23.976, pixel aspect 1, quality high, audio 16-bit Big Endian 48,000 sample, 16 bit stereo.

These are the settings as required by the distributor.

I know it will be a large file, but I have a drive with 1.5 TB space on it that I'm attempting to render to. It took over 12 hours for the render to get to 96%, and then it just quit. I can't remember the error message -- something about not having permission or space.

I have an i7 3.4 Ghz 64 bit system with 12 GB of RAM.

We film on a Panasonic HVX 200. Our settings for this project were 1280 X 720 at 24p.

Am I having this issue because I'm attempting to render at 1920 X 1080 when the settings for the project are 1280 X 720?

Any help is appreciated!

Don't have enough permission or space? Hmmm...how much space is the location to which you're rendering? Have you tried running Sony Vegas as an administrator? Can you create a text file in the area where you're trying to export to and modify it? What happens when you try marking off a smaller section and rendering it - say 10 seconds or so?

I rendered a 30 second test just fine. The file is almost 5 GB. The drive I'm trying to render to is 2 TB but only has 1.5 free. I'm going to move some of the other files off of it now before I test again.

Yeah, sounds like a space issue. Give yourself a healthy amount of room for that large file. HDDs often have a certain degree of over-provisioning which translates into space being there when it's not actually there.

At 5 GB for 30 seconds, the rendered 100-minute file will be over a TB in size. A 1.5 TB drive will have maybe 1.2 TB of useable space, probably less. That's not much wiggle room.

I would just plain get a bigger drive.
