Hi there,
We are starting to plan a local music festival in the east of England and is seeking some advice on a couple of factors.

Overview
A Weeks worth of music entertainment, a different genre each night. We Plan to have a multi-camera setup, that part, we do on a regular basis (no problems), but this time, we want to broadcast live via the internet,it should be HD (720p) and record the output to go straight to DVD or Blu-Ray. We plan to do no editing, but this might change. Hopefully it will happen in about July/August Next year

I am going to have to organize everything from the ground up so here are a few questions.

Video
Question One
- How Many Cameras?
I was thinking of around about 6

Question Two - What interface?
I was thinking of using 3G-SDI, and then connecting them to a live vision mixer

Question Three - What vision mixer!
We currently use a software vision mixer and it work very well but it can only accept 4 inputs and we were using firewire. I can get a quote from the company that made it for us and buy an sdi capture card. I would also have to build a more powerful rig. In the long run, a software mixer would be cheaper as a large event like this would only happen maybe once a year and so we could use this machine for other uses such as editing, where with a hardware mixer, its only good for, well, mixing.

Question Four - What cameras?
I know this is probably a bit early but yesterdays technology is the poor mans heaven. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
I've been reading up on the HMC151, and it looks like an excellent choice, and i could build a shoulder brace for it. Any other recommendations?

Question Five - How to communicate with the camera ops?
I was thinking of running two XLR cables to the cameras, one will be from the director/producer/etc and on from the camera op. This would require a separate mixer, i know you can get special talkback units, would these work out cheaper and can you suggest anything

Audio
Question Six - What audio mixers?
We will probably have to get three/four mixers, two for the live show (FOH and Monitors) and two for the broadcasted video (Video audio, and Talkback) Can you recommend any mixers?
I've had my eye on this one http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/42312-behringer-xenyx-xl3200.html paired with something else for monitors, or just one of these http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/5345-yamaha-mg24-14fx.html . Any suggestions?

Question Seven - What Microphones?
Kindof a blank area, i need mics for vocals, drums, guitar, bass and audience.

Question Eight - What Speakers? -
Another blank area but they should be loud enough to do outside concerts, so most likely going to end up with a stack

Question Nine - What Amplifiers?
My audio experience is for video so another blank area, no idea with this one

Lighting
No idea what so ever with this one so any help appreciated.

Stage
I was thinking of building one out of scaffolding. Any thoughts?

Sorry for such a large post but i would like to get organized with this.
We are on a very small budget and plan on buying all of the gear in hope of this becoming an annual event.

I will split up this post and put it into appropriate places around the forum and have it all linked to this thread.

Thanks in advanced

P.S - 3 Free tickets for anyone that helps

It doesn't make sense to buy the equipment for a single event. Bring in a contractor. If you are just starting out you need to bring in a producer with live event experience.
Unless this is a really small event, go with an outside production company.

Let me clarify, I've done lots of shows before, but we've decided to bump it up a notch and while we're at it, upgrade the equipment

What would be the point of the 3G-SDI? That's really only good for 1080/50p+, 2k, or 1080p 4:4:4, over a single cable instead of Dual-Link. Seems useless if you're going 720p. HD-SDI should be fine for 720.

The HMC150s don't have HD-SDI outs, so you'd need a HDMI to HD-SDI convertor or use the HPX170 at minimum. Ideally something more like a HPX300 or HPX500 (or higher) would be a better option.

(I should start charging for this stuff. If you want a tech advisor, let me know.)

I can help you out with the other stuff too, but it seems like a lot to go over on a forum.

Email me at Andrew.McCarrick@a51films.com if you want and I can help you some more there.

i thought of 3g-sdi because of the longer cable length.

i've decided to leave the audio to the professionals and think about the cmaeras.

I realise i have missed a lot of things off. such as strapping one of these to the camera op, http://www.dsvideo.tv/blackmagic_2085.php .

The reason why i missed such things are due to me trying to make the op as compact as possible and to the point.

Alos the reason why i choose that camera is due to the fact that it records to SD memory cards and IMO, AVCHD codec is far superiour to it's MPEG2 couterparts, (HDV, XDCAM ETC.) at the combined cost the the hmc151 camera and converter is much better value that the hpx171 which uses the same chips.
