Large File Transfer Issue

Hey all,

Quick question. I just picked up a Western Digital 1 TB external drive to store my HD footage on. It came preformatted to FAT 32 so I can't transfer large files (over 4 gb I believe). What would be the best file system to format it as and how would I go about it? I am on an Intel Mac (macbook pro) but most of my clients are on Windows machines, if that makes a difference.

Need an answer tonight if you could!!!! Need to get the drive I borrowed back tomorrow.

I believe your only alternative is to format the drive with NTFS file system, if you want file sizes larger than 4GB. However, I don't know how to tell you to do this using a Macbook Pro. Sorry.

Good luck!

Ok so I have two drives, one is a 1 TB Western Digital and one is a 100 GB maxtor. I formatted the maxtor to ntfs-3g so now it works on mac and windows with no file size limits (one drawback is it is dreadfully slow) but I just use that to transfer stuff which isn't that often so problem solved.

hope this helps anyone with the same problem in the future.
