Laptop Specifications for P2 Media Transfer

I posted recently but couldn't change the post name from
"Q" to anything else so, hope none minds me just making
another post with a actual topic name, ;)

I was wondering if anyone could tell me from experience what kind
of laptop you need to have if you wish to transfer P2 Media on location

example: I have a 4gb p2 card for my hvx200 and wish to transfer the footage
into the computer, and then carry on filming another 4gb's of p2 on the same card

Things I think are correct:

Firewire, PPCMI (something like that)
about 1.7-2.0 mhz processor
1-2gb ram

If you think that im about correct, than please state that also, otherwise
im gonna worry to death ;). Also I wish to know if the graphic card plays any
role in the process of transfering?

If someone could explain in detail how to do it id be really happy,
but im not expecting that.

Thanks for reading!

All you really need is a PCMCIA CardBus slot. Actual processor speed and amount of RAM won't have much of an effect on offloading. If you want to view the footage, then yes those will become important statistics, but if all you're looking for is the ability to copy the footage off the card, all you really need is a PCMCIA CardBus slot.

Thank you, this will make my purchase alot cheaper (unless that PCMCIA Cardbus slot is expensive!)

Cheers.

Does somebody make a (cheap) P2-useable Firewire (or USB) to PCMCIA adapter, where it's Firewire-connected on the computer side, not PCMCIA, which is all I have seen up to now?

If so, link, please!

So, im looking to purchase a laptop, philips freevents X56
to transfer my p2 media on location as mentioned before,
is this the correct slot for the p2 card?

ExpressCard 34/54 slot.

the freevents x56 also has firewire, which you can also transfer using, but its not as simple, correcto?

Thanks :D

Expresscard can be made to work, but it's not ideal. If you can get a PCMCIA slot you'll be better off.

With ExpressCard you have to use an adapter, either the Duel Adapter or the Addonics adapter.

Hmm, okay.. and normal USB or Firewire isnt as good, or doesn't work?
To bad cause I had a great deal on a Philips Freevents X56 laptop :(

USB works fine for transferring files to Windows. But it'll tie up your camera to do so, while using the PCMCIA slot means you can still be shooting on one card while transferring the other card. Plus no cables. It just frees up more options.
