Laptop Question

Hello folks,

I saw the following laptop for sale at Circuit City:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114380&Tpk=toshiba+p205s6337

It's a Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 Notebook Intel Core Duo T5300 (1.73gHz) with 2 gb RAM.

I should be able to dump dvcprohd p2 footage onto it and be able to edit on it.

My question is, does this model takes the P2 cards without an adapter?

I spoke to someone at Best Buy who said it would take P2 cards and then spoke to someone at Circuit City who said it wouldn't. So I'm confused.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.

It will not accept P2 cards without an adapter. P2 cards are designed for PCMCIA (Type-II) slots where this particular laptop has an Express Card slot.

Something like this should work: http://www.duel-systems.com/products/adapters.aspx

Also, the laptop looks a little light on processor power. Not sure if it will handle HD editing all that well. Plus keep in mind that this laptop ships with Windows Vista. I don't know how many NLE's are qualified for that OS. I know Avid Xpress Pro HD isn't (yet). You might want to buy a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 to be safe.

I would also highly recommend swapping out for an internal hard drive that is at least 100GB running at 7200RPM. And make sure your RAM is maxed out and top notch (upper-end Corsair and ECC, if possible) - you don't want mission-critical processes failing on you at inopportune times!

Not bad, 15.4" screen would only be good for editing the occasional shorts otherwise it'd drive you crazy.

And you'd have to buy 2 x 1gb sticks of ram which adds decent bit to the price (just in case you didn't realize most laptops have only 2 spaces for ram so the 2 512s it comes with would be useless).
