Laptop for editing

I know laptops are not the best choice out there for editing video and doing production work but I love being able to move around. Right now I have a Macbook Pro 15 that I use since apple replaced last years model after it broke, but Im just not feeling it really. I have moved to Blackmagic Resolve for editing and grading and will also grab Fusion soon to start learning that. My question is I have been offered a trade for a laptop that to be honest I had no clue even existed. Its called the Sager NP9377 and to me the specs are mind-blowing for a laptop. It has the Quad Core i7 in it and 16gb of ram but you can upgrade to 32 I think not for sure. I has thunderbolt and USB 3 for all the date based things. But what really made me look was its video card. Its a GT 980m but it has 8gb of ram and if you want you can upgrade it to sli and put two of these things in a laptop...

Anyone have one or close to one and can share thoughts on if this is good for editing on the go like I think or is it just a laptop at the end of the day. Thanks

Hi
Sager is a maker of reputable high performance laptops. That's all I can add. Might be a great solution. check weight, if you ever have to move it. Check battery life if you ever need to be portable. Check cooling in case frying eggs is not part of your workflow. What you describe is almost a desktop in a laptop case and likely will behave more like a desktop than a laptop.

The GPU is a mobile model, look up the specs but much less powerful than desktop of almost same model number. Sager sometimes puts in desktop CPUs. Check the exact model of CPU. Desktop one will again be much stronger than mobile model usually. But WAY... more power hungry and hot. With desktop components you are really attached to the AC cord. Even without you are looking at maybe 30 minutes on the battery.

But I speak generally. Check it out. And sometimes the tradeoffs are worth it.

I was planning on going desktop so battery I could care less really. The laptop form though really is something I like since we travel alot and being able to set up studio helps and a desktop makes that way harder.
