First.... maybe someone can give you a more informed view than mine...

But my experience which is a little limited would make me believe this.....

It all depends on the size of the files you plan to edit... DVC100 files should be fine on all new mac laptops

I use FCP 6 on a Mac Tower with 8 gigs of ram....

But FCP 6 can only neutralise 4 gigs of ram...... not sure about FCP 7

So 4 gigs is as high as it goes.......

I am not sure about the exact mac laptops you are talking about but the last time I checked most decent mac laptops where all coming with 2 gigs of ram..... and you can always add another 2 gigs of ram which you have to buy separately...... roughly about 100$ to 150$ for each gig....

That gives you the total capacity that FCP can use.....

And you might not even need 4 gigs of ram.....

So I would guess that any high end Mac laptop will do just fine.....

A big issue that you should consider, no matter what editing program you use, is that you must put all your media (video files) on a separate and external hard drive.... this takes a lot of the pressure off the hard drive in your laptop.....

So factor a good & fast hard drive into your budget......

I would also suggest if you plan to do a lot of editing on your laptop you should consider some sort of an external monitor..... this in my opinion does not have to be high end.... any sort of a decent screen or TV will do.... (just be wary of the colour correction issues associated with cheap monitors)

Hope this helps.....

PS.... Don't drop your laptop on the ground like I did..... 2 grand in 2 nanoseconds.... Ouch..........
