laptop for dv rack

i just bought dv rack and need laptop

most pc models ive looked at have 4 pin firewire, thats lame because i have invested 100s in extra long 4 to 8 pin FW cables and need 8 pin just like on my powerbook.

dvx = 4 pin

laptop= 8 pin

im brain dead from looking at pc laptop sites /options etc..

thank Leon! I hate adapters-but what can ya do?

I talked to a local guy here who said he had trouble with DV rack loosing communication intermitantly on a shoot when the camera or laptop was as much as brushed. It makes me wonder if the adaptor is such a good idea. one more link in the chian of a delicate system?

I am leaning toward the new Sagar Sager NP9860 but seem to recall a PC that did indeed have 6 pin on board...just cant remember which one

I have a PCMCIA card that has 2 USB 2.0 inputs and two Firewire Inputs, one is a 6 pin and the other is a 4 pin input. Bought it a Comp USA for $45.00.

thanks for the replies...my short range solution is......

bring a tower to the Shoot!@!! it will save me some $$ too :D
