Laptop Decision

Hello folks, just have a quick question for everyone. I'm going to start school soon (community college... ) and I would like to purchase a laptop to keep up with my projects in school. Basically I'm asking if anyone knows a particular laptop that is good for:

-Editing video (duh)
-Watching DVDs
-Firewire port
-S-Video port
-Maybe some light gaming (Half-life 1 engine)
-And not too heavy or bulky

Thanks!

Before the Powerbook fiends pile on, I'll share what I have:

HP. P4 2.8HT. 60GB 7200RPM HDD (speed is necessary). 1GB DDR RAM. Lots of USB; one Firewire.

And the most important feature: 17" widescreen monitor, 1680x1050 resolution.

Vegas runs like a dream on it. There's also a DVD burner if I want to use DVD Architect to burn off a DVD on the spot.

Price: $1600, ordered directly from HP.

I have pretty much the same laptop - works great.

The one thing that you may want to consider is that the one thing that a Powerbook will never do is run DVRack...

Sounds like the HP zd8000 series, right? Problem is that, that particular model is more classified as a "desktop replacement" meaning heavy and big. I was looking for something 6 lbs or less.

I don't know how heavy mine is, I'll check. But it doesn't seem to feel any heavier than any other laptops I've had. I just get used to it.

Although I don't carry it walking around much. As far as using in production scenarios its just another peice of equipment...

Well I'd use mine when at school during breaks and what not, you know, something kinda small that fits in a backpack that I can just whip out real quick. Not some uber laptop with huge screen that weights 6 lbs or more.

Anyone had experience with Dell Inspiron 700m? I can get a pretty decked out one for like 800 bucks because you can find coupon codes online if you search "Dell coupons" on google. I found one for 700 dollars off a notebook thats at least 1399.
