Laptop connection

Can you go 1394 to 1394? does such a cord exist? I bought a usb 2.0 , 5 pin , 6'/1.8m does not work. Could not find in the instruction manuel where it says the specific usb cord to use. A little help would be appreciated. My laptop has usb 2.0 inputs as well as a 1394 input, but its the same input as the camera so I was wondering if a cord existed with the same double end, or which usb cord to get.

Don't use USB cables in 1394 ports, many companies warn that this can damage the devices you plug them into.

I'm sure the cable exists that has the right connector on each end... check out cables to go, they are generally not too expensive and have a good variety.

I wasn't using a usb cable in a 1394 port.

sorry I should be more specific , i'm trying to get a usb 2.0 cable to work with onlocation. My computer is picking it up now, but it wont work in onlocation or premier.

the firewire you may be looking for is a 4pin to 4pin firewire
any local store like best buy and futureshop should carry it

plug that in and onlocation should recognize it

I can't say definitively that onLocation can't use usb (but I would be really surprized if it did). However I don't know of any camera putting out live video out the usb port. The HVX, for example, only uses the usb for offloading data previously recorded on the P2. So for live video it is certainly firewire you want.
